Dear friends and colleagues:

Please find attached the trip report of Mr. Boma Anga about the study tour of the Nigerian delegation to Thailand, Vietnam and China, held Nov 12 to 23, 2007. This report gives a very up-to-date account of the cassava situation in these three countries, especially as it relates to production of ethanol from cassava. Apparently, the trip was a great success and is now leading to the establishment of several cassava ethanol projects in Nigeria. Another similar trip is planned for mid March 2008, this time including delegates from several other cassava countries in Africa.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in organizing and guiding the study tour participants and to contribute to the success of this trip. I much appreciate the time you spent with this group and your efforts to make it a worthwhile trip. I hope that it will contribute to a transition of the use of cassava in Afirca from an important food crop, to one that can also be used for many industrial purposes, very similar to what has happened in many countries in Asia over the past decades.

Wishing you all the best in the New Year.

Regards.

Reinhardt
